 Concept Introduction

Polybutylene terephthalate, abbreviated as PBT, is a polyester in the series, formed by the polycondensation of 1.4-pbt butylene glycol and para-terephthalic acid (PTA) or terephthalate ester (DMT). It is processed into a milky, translucent to opaque, crystalline thermoplastic through blending procedures. Together with PET, it is collectively known as thermoplastic polyester or saturated polyester.

 Main Application

In China, the primary consumption fields for PBT are electronics and electrical appliances, accounting for about 55%, with approximately 10% used in the automotive sector, and about 35% in other fields. As China's automotive industry and the electronics/electrical industries experience rapid growth, the demand for PBT is also increasing sharply.PBT PlasticThe outlook for the series of products remained promising before and after 2010. Looking back, the global PBT consumption was approximately 570,000 tons/year (basic resin) in 2003, with demand primarily from North America. Asia's consumption also grew rapidly due to the demand from the electronics/electric industry. The regional demand for global PBT was as follows: North America 200,000 tons, Western Europe 165,000 tons, Japan 98,000 tons, and other regions of the world 188,000 tons. The automotive and electronics/electrical industries accounted for about 75% of the global PBT total consumption, and the global demand had maintained an annual growth rate of 8-10% from 2004 to 2006.
