Fiber Ball Filter

1. Product Features
As a novel water quality fine treatment equipment in pressure filter, the modified high-efficiency fiber ball filter is a breakthrough in our company's fine filtration technology for oilfield produced water, filling a gap in the fine filtration field of produced water. For a long timeOur country has always used sand filters, walnut shell filters, and double-filter media filters for the reinjection of oilfield produced water. Especially in low-permeability oil reservoirs, the fine filtration technology for water injection has never been broken through, far from meeting the requirements for water injection in low-permeability oil reservoirs. We have adopted the new KDST modified fiber ball filter for oil-contaminated water treatment, which has high processing accuracy and is not graded for fine filtration of oilfield produced water.
This filter uses fiber ball filter media made from special fiber filaments synthesized with a new chemical formula. Its primary feature is that the fiber filter material is fundamentally modified from hydrophobic to hydrophilic. The filter media diameter can reach several tens or even several micrometers, offering advantages such as a large specific surface area, low filtration resistance, and solving issues such as the filtration precision of granular filter materials being limited by the particle size. It is an updated and upgraded product for filtration equipment using quartz sand and other granular filter materials. The product is applied to fine filtration in oilfield oily wastewater and other areas, where the fiber balls are not easy to adhere oil, making them convenient for backwashing and regeneration, and they offer high filtration precision. The modified high-efficiency fiber filter can effectively remove suspended matter in water and has a significant removal effect on organic matter, colloids, iron, manganese, and other substances.
II. Scope of Application
1. Widely used in recirculating water bypass filtration, deep treatment of domestic water, boiler feed water treatment, pretreatment for reverse osmosis, and wastewater reuse filtration.
2. Suitable for coarse, medium, and fine filtration of oilfield produced water reinjection, as well as for the outflow treatment of oilfield and refinery wastewater.
3. Suitable for recycling and filtration treatment of industrial circulating water and domestic water from various industries such as steel, thermal power, shipbuilding, papermaking, chemicals, textiles, food, beverages, tap water, swimming pools, and their wastewater.
4. Applicable for purified water, seawater, brackish water desalination, centralized water supply projects, urban sewage treatment, and other water treatment processes.

III. Product Features
Compared to a standard fiber ball filter
(1) Modified fiber spheres have fine diameters and a large specific surface area, reaching up to 2000 m²/g. Due to their thin fiber diameter, the overlaid filter layer has small pores, with a porosity exceeding 80% after overlay. This provides superior interception of suspended particles compared to other filter materials. Therefore, it is particularly ideal for treating injection water in low-permeability oil reservoirs; it is also more suitable for filtration of water with high suspended particle levels, both for discharge and reuse.
(2) The fiber yarn has been modified to possess hydrophilic and oleophobic properties. Whether it's pure oil or oil-contaminated wastewater, when in contact with water, water molecules can penetrate the surface of the modified fiber yarn, forming a water film that separates the yarn from the oil. During backwashing, it can be thoroughly cleaned, demonstrating excellent backwashing and regeneration capabilities.
(3) Modified fiber balls have a higher specific gravity than regular fiber balls and are non-sticky. Under hydraulic force during filtration, they can sink to the bottom of the tank, forming a well-structured loose-top and tight-bottom filter layer. As the modified fiber ball filter media operates, the porosity of the filter layer gradually decreases in the direction of water flow, creating an ideal top-heavy and bottom-light porosity distribution. This enhances the interception effect and improves the filtration performance.
2. Compared to traditional filters such as quartz sand
High filtration accuracy: The removal rate of suspended particles in water can approach 100%, and it has a significant removal effect on bacteria, viruses, large organic molecules, colloids, iron, and other impurities.
(2) Fast filtration speed: Typically 30-45 m/h, up to 80 m/h. This is 2-3 times faster than other granular filter media (such as anthracite, quartz sand, magnetite, etc.). To achieve the same precision, a single-grade modified fiber ball filter is used, while dual-media filters, sand filters, etc., require two grades or more. To meet the same treatment volume requirements, the tank diameter of the modified fiber ball filter is significantly smaller, and the wastewater treatment standards are improved by one grade.
(3) Large Wastewater Capacity: Typically 5-15 kg/m³, more than double that of traditional quartz sand filters.
(4) High Overall Cost-Effectiveness: Under the same treatment volume and incoming water quality standards, the modified fiber ball filter reduces equipment investment by over 50% compared to other filters (performance-to-price ratio), and improves the wastewater treatment standards by one level.
(5) Smaller land area: For the same water output, the land area is less than 1/3 of that of a quartz sand filter.
(6) Low cost per ton of water: Reverse osmosis water treatment accounts for only about 2% of the total water production. Particularly, it can utilize pre-filtered water for reverse osmosis, thus, its cost per ton of water is approximately one-third of traditional filters.
(7) Low water consumption: Only 1-3% of the cycle water volume, suitable for backwashing with raw water.
(8) No filter element replacement required: Filter elements can be easily cleaned when contaminated, restoring their filtration performance.
(9) Easy backwashing: During backwashing, the fiber filter media is fully loosened, allowing for a thorough backwashing regeneration under the action of bubbles and hydraulic force.
(10) High mechanical strength and long service life, easy operation, convenient maintenance, and reliable performance: The service life of high molecular polypropylene fiber filter material exceeds ten years. It has higher strength than quartz sand and typically maintains strong filtration and backwashing capabilities without damage or material leakage.

V. Working Principle
Fiber ball filters primarily consist of cylindrical pressure vessels, supports, manholes, and connecting pipes, with their operating principle divided into two stages: filtration and backwashing.
b. The raw water is added with a specific amount of coagulant during the filtration process, which is then rapidly mixed by the pump impeller before entering the equipment for purification and filtration.

d. The mechanism of modified fiber ball for removing oil and mechanical impurities is: direct interception, inertial interception, and electrochemical adsorption.
e. During the filtration process, wastewater flows from top to bottom through the filter layer, with oil and suspended particles being intercepted, thereby removing most of the contaminants.
h. During the backwashing process, clean water flushes the filter media from bottom to top, while stirring continuously. The contaminants trapped by the filter media are gradually cleaned away.
In response to the varying water volumes in certain oil fields and the demand for high-precision processing, to prevent the filter layer from not being sufficiently compacted, we have improved the internal structure of the filter equipment. We have designed a filter material clamping device, relocating the agitator mechanism from the top of the filter tank to the bottom, with the clamping device situated at the top of the tank. During operation, the clamping device activates, the pressure plate descends to a certain position, compacting the filter material; wastewater flows from top to bottom through the filter layer. When backwashing begins, the clamping device activates, the pressure plate rises, the backwashing pump starts, backwashing water breaks through the filter layer, and the agitator starts. This results in a more stable and compact pore structure of the filter layer, which is more conducive to the removal of suspended particles, ensuring the stability of the fiber ball filter's filtration precision.

2. Equipment Usage
(1) Generally, backwashing should be initiated when the water head reaches 5 meters. The method involves adjusting the valve to allow raw water to flow back into the original outlet, while the wastewater is discharged through the drain at the inlet.
(2) Prior to water backwashing, air backflushing should be conducted first. After a 5-minute backflushing period, proceed with water backwashing. Once completed, the system can be returned to normal operational status.
