Beta cyclodextrin is a cyclic oligosaccharide consisting of seven sugars linked by α-1,4-glycosidic bonds, formed by the action of cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase on starch.

1. Medical industry
Maltodextrin can effectively enhance the solubility and dissolution rate of some poorly water-soluble drugs, such as prostaglandin-CD complexes, which increase the solubility of the active ingredient to produce injectable solutions. It also improves the stability and bioavailability of drugs like Enterocongruent Granules volatile oil; reduces the unpleasant or bitter taste of drugs like Andrographis; mitigates the irritation and side effects of drugs like Sodium diclofenac; and facilitates controlled release and improves the dosage form of drugs like Berberine hydrochloride.
2. Analytical Chemistry
Cyclodextrins are chiral compounds with the ability to recognize and select organic molecules, and have been successfully applied in various chromatography and electrophoresis methods for separating different isomers and enantiomers. Cyclodextrins can enhance the selectivity of systems in electrochemical analysis.
3. Daily Chemicals
Cyclodextrins, when used in conjunction with surfactants in shampoos and kitchen cleaners, can reduce the irritation to the skin caused by surfactants. Cyclodextrins can also remove oil stains from fabrics. In dyeing processes, the use of cyclodextrins can significantly decrease the initial dyeing rate, enhance even dyeing, and increase the color yield of fibers.

Incorporating cyclodextrins in environmental protection is based on their ability to form stable complexes with pollutants, thereby reducing environmental pollution. Their unique molecular structure can be utilized in biological treatment of industrial wastewater. Additionally, air fresheners can achieve a prolonged fragrance duration by adding cyclodextrins, which slowly release gas molecules.
