Whole vehicle transportation refers to the shipment of goods exceeding 3 tons (inclusive) by the consignor, or those less than 3 tons but requiring transportation in a 3-ton or larger road cargo vehicle due to their nature, volume, or shape.
Whole vehicle transportation usually involves one bill of lading per vehicle and one shipper. Therefore, road freight transport companies should select vehicles with a rated load capacity that matches the shipment amount for transporting whole vehicle goods. When the weight (gross weight) of the goods shipped by one shipper is less than the vehicle's rated load capacity, to make reasonable use of the vehicle's carrying capacity, another shipper's goods can be consolidated, resulting in one vehicle with two or more bills of lading, but the total weight of the goods must not exceed the vehicle's rated load capacity.
Whole vehicle cargo is loaded and unloaded at multiple points, and the weight is calculated based on the total gross weight of the entire journey. If the gross weight is less than the vehicle's rated carrying capacity, the weight is calculated based on the vehicle's rated carrying capacity. The shipper is responsible for loading the whole vehicle cargo. If the vehicle is not fully loaded to the standard carrying weight, the shipping fee is charged based on the vehicle's standard carrying weight.
Whole vehicle transportation generally does not require many intermediary links, resulting in short delivery times and lower logistics costs. For long-distance transportation and distribution involving intercity or transit trade, such as in international trade where importers and exporters often enter into trade contracts based on whole vehicles, this is to fully leverage the advantages of whole vehicle transportation, such as speed, convenience, economy, and reliability.
