Ball screw mainly consists of screw, nut, ball, fixed seat, scraper, and return pipe. Depending on the difference in their circulation systems, they are further categorized into external circulation, internal circulation, and plug circulation ball screws.
The structure of ball screw traditionally divides into two types: the internal recirculation structure (represented by circular and elliptical reversers) and the external recirculation structure (represented by sleeves). Both structures are commonly used. There is no essential difference in performance between the two structures; the only difference is that the internal recirculation structure has smaller installation and connection dimensions, while the external recirculation structure has larger installation and connection dimensions. The shape of the reverse gear with an internal loop structure is diverse, but the commonly used shapes are circular and elliptical. Due to the shorter ball reverse channels in circular shapes, they are less fluid than elliptical structures. Currently, the good reverse gear structure is the elliptical internal channel design. Since the ball reverse does not pass through the lead screw teeth, the ball screw DFU, similar to the external loop structure, it eliminates the influence of the chamfer error of the lead screw teeth on the ball reverse. However, due to the complex manufacturing process, it affects the promotion of this structure.

1. According to the standard GB/T17587.3-1998 and its application examples, ball screw (which has basically replaced trapezoidal screw, ball screw XSV, commonly known as screw) is an actuator used to convert rotational motion into linear motion; or vice versa, and boasts high transmission efficiency and precise positioning!
2. When the ball screw acts as the actuator, the nut moves in a straight line by converting the rotational angle of the screw into the corresponding pitch according to its specifications. The passive workpiece can be connected to the nut through the nut seat, thereby achieving the corresponding linear motion.

Ball screw installation:
The feeding system of a CNC machine tool equipped with ball screws must achieve high transmission rigidity. Besides enhancing the rigidity of the ball screw nut itself, the correct installation of the ball screw and the structural rigidity of its support are also crucial factors. Both the nut seat and the support seat should possess sufficient rigidity and precision. Typically, the contact area between the machine and the connecting components is appropriately increased to enhance the local rigidity and contact strength of the nut seat. In Shanghai, new machine tools often integrate the nut seat or support seat with the machine body as a single unit to increase rigidity, whenever the process conditions permit.
To enhance the axial rigidity of the support, selecting the appropriate roller bearing is also crucial. Currently in China, two main combination methods are employed. One is to use radial bearings and tapered bearings in combination, which has a simple structure, like the ball screw DFI, but lacks sufficient axial rigidity. The other is to combine thrust bearings or radial thrust bearings with radial bearings, which improves the axial rigidity but increases the bearing friction resistance and heat generation, as well as the structural size of the bearing bracket.
