All paper must be kept clean; damp paper cannot feed properly and may tilt or fold in the paper path. The print quality on damp paper is usually poor. On laser printers, damp spots may appear blurred (or not visible at all). In all cases, paper should be kept free of dust and dirt, as it can contaminate the printer's mechanical components.
