Pile foundations can be single piles (such as in the case of one column per pile), or single row piles or multiple rows of piles. For double (or multiple) column bridge pier foundations with a single row of piles, when the pile caps are elevated and above the ground, the piles are connected by transverse beams to enhance the lateral connection between the piles.
In most cases, pile foundations consist of a group of piles, with the piles either fully or partially embedded in the subsoil. All the piles in the group are connected as a single unit at the top by a pier cap. The pile caps are broken to fit the pipe piles, and then the pier body or platform, as well as the upper structure, are constructed on top of the pier cap.
During the broken pile head process, protect the pile head rebar and acoustic pipe (if applicable), and do not arbitrarily bend the pile head rebar. The length of the anchoring rebars embedded in the pier cap (or tie beam, pile connection) must not be less than the anchoring length requirements specified by the design standards.
After breaking the pile head, there should be no residual loose concrete at the pile top; after completing the measurement and setting of the pile center, draw two intersecting ink lines at the pile top, clearly marking the pile center and pile number, and take photos for record.

What should be considered when cutting the head of a bored pile?
1) Set up the drilling rig, ensuring the drill rod center aligns. Adjust the horizontal displacement and tilt errors according to specifications.
(2) When drilling with an impact drill, wait until the concrete in adjacent holes has cured and reached a certain level of strength before starting the drilling.
(3) The drilling process employs a positive circulation rotary drilling technique. In clay layers, less soil is added, and mud is self-generated through drilling. In sandy soil layers, increase the mud concentration to stabilize the wall. The drilling speed is always matched with the mud discharge rate.
(4) Maintain a constant hydrostatic pressure of 0.2 kg/cm2 within the borehole, ensuring the water level in the casing is always above the reservoir level. When encountering loose strata, appropriately increase the relative density and viscosity of the mud, to minimize the impact of the flushing fluid on the borehole walls. Simultaneously, reduce the rotational speed and drilling pressure to meet construction quality control requirements.
(5) No drill bits, drill rods, or other foreign objects are allowed to fall into the hole during the drilling process. Regularly inspect the wear condition of the drill bit.
(6) Collect slag samples at any time during the drilling process, with no less than one set per meter. Within a range of 1.0 to 1.5 meters from the designed elevation, collect one set every 30 cm. For each pile, there should be no fewer than three sets of slag samples.
