What isBSMI Certification

BSMI is the abbreviation for the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan. According to a notice from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan, as of July 1, 2005, BSMI has established product inspection regulations for electronic and electrical products entering the Taiwan market. BSMI certification is mandatory, and products must meet safety standards, EMC testing, and other relevant inspections to be authorized to use the BSMI mark.

Currently, there are three application methods available:

Type Approval

2. Certification Registration

3. Compliance Declaration

Characteristics of the three application methods are as follows:

1. The Compliance Declaration applies only to components of 19 types of information technology equipment.

2. The manufacturer decides independently whether to apply for type approval or certification registration.

The difference between type approval and certification registration lies in:

（1) Inspection Method:

If the product has obtained type approval, the client's inspection will be streamlined.

For products applying for certification registration, no customer inspection is conducted; instead, market random sampling is adopted.

（2) Fee Variations

Application fees for certification registration are higher than for type approval, and annual fees are also charged, whereas type approval does not incur annual fees.

BSMI Certified Product Scope

1. Mandatory Product Inspection Mark (CIMARK): Electrical products (such as household appliances), electronic products (such as information and entertainment audio-visual equipment), mechanical products (such as electric tools), and chemical products (such as tires and toys).

2. Voluntary Character Mark (CNS MARK): Industrial products, construction materials, electrical wires, household appliances, automotive and motorcycle parts, industrial raw materials.

3. Voluntary Product Certification Mark (VPCMARK): Critical safety components, digital set-top boxes, lamp sockets, battery chargers, restricted hazardous substances, lithium batteries, sports and fitness equipment, etc.
