Corrosion-resistant steel pipes refer to steel pipes that have undergone anti-corrosion processing, effectively preventing or slowing down the corrosion phenomenon caused by chemical or electrochemical reactions during transportation and use. According to Chinese statistics, the direct economic loss from steel pipe corrosion in the country is over 280 billion yuan annually.
Annual losses worldwide due to steel pipe corrosion amount to as much as $500 billion. Corrosion-resistant steel pipes can effectively prevent or slow down corrosion, extending the service life of steel pipes and reducing their operational costs.
3PE coated steel pipes include seamless steel pipes, spiral steel pipes, and straight seam steel pipes. The three-layer polyethylene (3PE) anti-corrosion coating, with its excellent corrosion resistance, moisture vapor permeability, and mechanical properties, has been widely used in the oil pipeline industry. The anti-corrosion layer of 3PE coated steel pipes is crucial for the lifespan of buried pipelines. Pipes made of the same material can last for decades without corrosion when buried underground, while others may leak within a few years. This difference is due to the varied external anti-corrosion coatings they employ.
3PE anticorrosive steel pipes refer to the steel pipes with an external anticorrosive coating consisting of three layers of polyethylene (MAPEC), a commonly used type of anticorrosive pipeline in China. Other anticorrosive methods include IPN8710, FBE epoxy powder, and coal tar epoxy, among others. Generally, it pertains to the anticorrosion of the outer surface of steel pipes.

In practice, the three materials are blended together and integrated, then processed to form a strong bond with steel pipes, creating an excellent anticorrosive coating. The processing methods typically include winding and round mold wrapping.
3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe coating, also known as three-layer polyethylene coating, is a new type of anti-corrosion steel pipe coating that ingeniously combines Europe's 2PE anti-corrosion layer with the widely used North American epoxy powder coated steel pipe (FBE). It has been recognized and used globally for over a decade.
The coating of the 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe consists of an epoxy powder anti-corrosion coating in contact with the steel pipe surface, a middle layer of a copolymer adhesive with branching structural groups, and a surface layer of high-density polyethylene anti-corrosion coating.
The three PE corrosion-resistant coating combines the high impermeability and mechanical properties of both epoxy resin and polyethylene materials. To date, it is globally recognized for its effective and superior performance as a pipeline corrosion-resistant coating, and is thus applied in numerous engineering projects.
The internal wall anticorrosion of steel pipes is divided into two types: one is hot-melt epoxy resin powder coating (high-temperature fusion), and the other is liquid epoxy paint, commonly using liquid epoxy IPN8710 (cold spray at room temperature).
Standard for Corrosion-Resistant Steel Pipe:
Domestically, we follow the SY/T0413-2002 standard, which was implemented on August 1, 2002. This standard primarily regulates polyethylene and high-density polyethylene, setting the Vicat softening point at no less than 110°C; the thickness of the external corrosion protection layer is determined according to the German standard DIN 30670-1991, which primarily focuses on low and medium-density polyethylene. This has significantly improved the impact resistance of the 3PE corrosion protection layer. The SY/T0413-2002 standard has greatly enhanced the peel strength and impact resistance of the 3PE layer, clearly specifying the carbon black content to ensure its mechanical strength and weather resistance, and has increased the frequency of random testing for the joint peel strength (i.e., the peel strength of the primer on the base steel for heat-shrink sleeves and heat-shrink strips).
