The liquid refrigerant in the evaporator absorbs heat from the water and starts to evaporate. Once completely evaporated into a gas, it is compressed by the compressor. The gaseous refrigerant then absorbs heat through the condenser, condensing into a liquid. After throttling through a thermal expansion valve (or capillary tube), it becomes a low-temperature, low-pressure refrigerant and enters the evaporator, completing the refrigerant cycle. The circulating medium (either tap water or antifreeze) temperature will decrease slightly with each cycle, and through continuous repetition, the desired refrigeration effect is achieved.
