316 stainless steel pipe, with added molybdenum, boasts exceptional corrosion resistance, atmospheric corrosion resistance, and high-temperature strength, suitable for use under stringent conditions; it also exhibits excellent work-hardening properties (non-magnetic).
316 stainless steel offers superior corrosion and high-temperature resistance compared to 304 stainless steel; this is due to the addition of a specific element – 2% to 3% molybdenum (Mo) – in 316 stainless steel. The presence of molybdenum creates a dense oxide film on the surface, effectively preventing the oxide layer from being damaged, thus inhibiting pitting and crevice corrosion. The application range of 316 stainless steel is broader than that of 304 stainless steel, and it is generally used in industries or marine atmospheres with severe corrosion.
