The plant is hairless, with a diverse appearance, and has a grass-like rosette of basal leaves. The stem and leaf junction forms a sheath, which is wider in diameter than the stem. The flowers are clustered, with a cylindrical calyx that slightly tapers at the top. Like all Caryophyllaceae plants, there is a series of opposite bracts surrounding the calyx, about half the length of the calyx. The flowers have veining, measuring 20-30mm in diameter, deep pink, with 5 toothed petals.
