




Carex breviculmis R. Br., commonly known as the green Carex, is a short rhizome perennial herb of the Cyperaceae family and Carex genus, with stems up to 40 cm tall, slender, triangular, slightly rough above, and with pale brown sheaths at the base. The leaves are shorter than the stems, flat, and hard textured. The lower bract is leaf-like, longer than the inflorescence, with short sheaths, nearly sheathless. The terminal spike is male, oblong, and the lateral spike is female, with oblong-ovate male flower scales, membranous, pale yellowish. The pericarp is nearly as long as the scales, ovate, and the small nut is tightly enclosed within, oval, chestnut-colored, flowering and fruiting from March to June.
