Material is conveyed to the hopper by a belt conveyor or a bucket elevator, then it is fed into the charging end through the charging pipe by the hopper feeder. The slope of the charging pipe must be greater than the natural angle of repose of the material to ensure smooth flow into the dryer. The material enters the drum together and, as the drum rotates, is moved to the other end by gravity, accomplishing a two-in-one-out drying process.

During the forward movement of wet material within the drum, it receives direct or indirect heating from the heat carrier, allowing the wet material to be dried. Subsequently, it is discharged at the outlet end via a belt conveyor or screw conveyor. Riffles are installed on the inner wall of the dryer drum, which function to lift and scatter the material, thereby increasing the contact surface area with the airflow. The heat carrier is typically divided into hot air, flue gas, etc. After passing through the dryer, it generally requires a cyclone separator to collect the material carried by the gas. To further reduce the dust content in the exhaust gas, it should be passed through a bag dust collector or a wet dust collector before being released.
