How to correctly install an electric motor protector: I have been engaged in the research and development of electric motor protectors for over three decades, enduring storms and trials, both in the field of use and through the feedback from these over three decades of users, which has led to the identification of several fundamental issues.
1. Install each motor protector correctly beneath the AC contactor; there is no need to distinguish the installation direction of the current transformer (AC voltage), but pay attention to the phase sequence and ensure it fits within the calibration voltage range. The control wires must be securely connected to their designated positions.
2. The working power supply must ensure continuous power supply and should be connected above the AC contactor, allowing for constant monitoring of the motor's status. Monitoring the three-phase voltage and secondary control circuit can be done after preparation before closing the circuit, to ensure safe operation.
3. There are many types of secondary control circuit methods, for example: star-delta start-up wiring must set the switching time and method on the motor protector, and the contact attraction status of the AC contactor is obtained through the signal switch quantity of the motor protector and feedback.
4. When using motors of the same specification, different current values may occur. The motor size and current are determined by the load weight. It is necessary to set the overload current for each motor's monitor protector, which can be adjusted by closely observing the three-phase current values displayed on the screen. When monitoring the three-phase current values, if any phase or the average current of all three phases exceeds the set overcurrent value, the screen will display:"Overcurrent" indication and display the actual phase overload current value, blinking previewOverload ProtectionSet trip circuitTime isInner,Motor protector protective trip pointActionDisconnect Output。
5. Start the motor with different loads, and the time from startup to normal operation varies; thus, the protection device's startup delay time needs to be set.If the normal startup current is less than the overload setting current within the set time, the motor protector will trigger an alarm due to timeout, and will actuate within the predetermined time, stopping the equipment from starting. Adjust the startup delay time is required.
6. Protection values for over/under voltage must be set at different voltage levels. In electric hybrid sites, there are often large differences between high and low voltages, and frequent voltage fluctuations are common. In such cases, overvoltage and undervoltage protectors are required, and motor protectors generally come with voltage fluctuation protection.3 seconds.
7. Crushers and conveyors exhibit several times the current error under both no-load and full-load conditions. Operating them at the same voltage level may lead to unsafe situations like running off course. It is necessary to set up the motor protector with light-load (under-load) function, based on the motor's no-load and full-load low current values compared to high current values, and to configure light-load protection.
8. The motor protection devices all have a ready-to-use function. Many industry professionals have checked that the circuit is properly connected and the function settings are correct, yet they can't start the motor. At this point, it's crucial to check the phase and feedback signal lines of the secondary circuit, as well as whether the relay programming function and switching time are successfully matched.
9. There's a wide variety of motor protectors on the market, not all produced according to national and industry standards, which results in each product lacking universality. This leads to unnecessary work for installers and incorrect operations due to a lack of understanding of the product's performance characteristics.
10. Our factory-produced products come with a product certification and user manual. When installing and setting up, please read the operation and debugging steps to obtain normal protection settings. To reasonably protect the motor, it is necessary to frequently set the protection current, voltage, and action time. It is a normal phenomenon for the current value to change slightly after the new equipment has been running for a certain period of time.
