Exported wireless products to Japan (such as Bluetooth products, mobile phones, Wi-Fi routers, drones, etc.) require the telec certification, which is a mandatory product certification in Japan. The telec certification is provided by MIC, a registered certification body recognized within the scope of radio equipment by telec (Telecom Engineering Center), the primary registered certification body for radio equipment compliance certification in Japan. Telec is also known as MIC certification in Japan, as it is one of the certification bodies authorized by MIC, hence the unified term "telec certification." Non-wireless products require PSE certification instead.
What is the Japan MIC Certification?
MIC is based on the certification issued by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, abbreviated as MIC) under the Denpahō and the Telecommunications Business Act.
MIC is Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, responsible for formulating regulations and standards. Telec is one of the certification bodies for MIC, hence, both Telec Certification and MIC Certification are correct.
Telec Certification Product Range
1.2.4g product
2. Bluetooth Products
3. WiFi products
4. RFID products
Telec Certification Type
Telec certification includes test certification and type certification.
Testing and certification is conducted for each individual unit, with the certification being valid only for the unit that has passed the verification; type certification refers to the verification of a sample from a batch of equipment with the same design and manufacture, and this certification applies to all units in that batch. However, if there are changes in the design or manufacture of the equipment, it will require re-certification.
In summary, both JATE and TELEC are merely certification bodies recognized by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Referring to the process of making Japanese technical standards applicable as "JATE or TELEC certification" is inappropriate and incorrect. Similarly, just as China's CCC certification, while CQC (China Quality Certification Center) can issue certain types of CCC certifications, we still refer to it as the "CCC certification" and not the "CQC certification." This is because CQC is just one of the certification bodies authorized to issue CCC certifications.
The term "MIC certification" is clearly named after the English abbreviation (MIC) of Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. This naming is more standardized compared to JATE and TELEC. However, MIC is merely the regulatory body for radio and telecommunications business certification in Japan. Therefore, analogous to China's CCC, the CCC certification standards are issued by the CNCA, the China National Certification and Accreditation Administration. Yet, we do not refer to this certification as CNCA certification; instead, we call it CCC certification based on the certification mark. Thus, by analogy, the standard term for the certification of Japan's radio and telecommunications products should be "giteki certification." In Japan, the mark that passes this certification and is stamped on the product is called the "Technically Suitable Mark."
