Japan PSE Certification Scope and Application Steps. The PSE (Product Safety of Electrical Appliance & Materials) Certification, known as "Suitability Inspection" in Japan, is a market access system for electrical appliances in Japan and an important provision under Japan's "Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act."

PSE certification is a mandatory safety certification in Japan, used to demonstrate that electrical and electronic products have passed safety standard tests according to the Japanese Electrical and Material Safety Law (DENAN Law) or international IEC standards.

　　PSE Certification "Type A" and "Type B":

The Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Law (DENAN) was established by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan, aiming to regulate the safety of electronic and electrical products. It categorizes electrical products into Class A "Specific Electrical Appliances" and Class B "Non-Specific Electrical Appliances." Class A includes 116 types of products, while Class B encompasses 341 types.

The Diamond PSE mark is applicable to Class A "Specific Electrical Appliances." Products must be certified by an authorized third-party certification body recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and obtain a certification certificate before manufacturers or importers can affix the diamond-shaped PSE mark to the product.

The Circle PSE mark is applicable to Class B "Non-Specific Electrical Products." Manufacturers and importers of such products can self-declare compliance by testing for DENAN technical requirements at the manufacturing stage and retaining a copy of the test report.

Note: Whether A or B category, there is an obligation to ensure that the electrical appliances comply with mandatory technical requirements and affix the corresponding PSE mark on the product.

The scope of control includes 457 products under the "Electrical Product Safety Law."

Products with a higher risk of causing electric shock, fires, and other accidents include 116 types, categorized as "Specific Electrical Products—referred to as Category A Electrical Products," such as chargers and adapters.

341 products with lower hazard are categorized as "Non-Specific Electrical Products—referred to as B Class Electrical Products." Most household appliances, lighting products, and lithium batteries fall under the B Class.

Certificate Validity: 3-7 years; Standard does not update, remains valid throughout

Note: Japan's DENTORL Law (Electrical Appliances and Materials Control Law) requires Japanese purchasers to register and declare with Japan's METI within one month of purchasing goods.
