The rectifier transformer for the electrostatic precipitator is properly matched with the damping resistor, which can reduce the neutral point resonance overvoltage to 15% of the phase voltage. However, grid failures are diverse, such as intermittent grounding and high-resistance grounding, which pose significant difficulties for the short-circuiting device and its control system, leading to accidents like burning out the linear damping resistor and the short-circuiting device. In view of this, if the resistor in the arc-suppression coil circuit can be changed to a non-linear resistor that automatically adjusts its resistance value based on voltage or current, the automatic tuning function of the arc-suppression coil can be fully utilized. In normal operation, the rated power of the damping resistor in the arc-suppression coil grounding system must be greater than the product of its resistance and the square of the secondary rated current, and a certain safety margin should be left.

       Damping resistors are typically installed between the output of the rectifier transformer and the incoming line of the wall-through porcelain insulator for the electric field. It is recommended to mount them on the contacts of the isolation switch inside the high-voltage disconnect switch cabinet (vertically suspended) or on the wall-through porcelain insulator sleeve before entering the power field. Since damping resistors generate heat during operation, they should not be mounted on the copper bolt at the output end of the rectifier transformer to avoid affecting the lifespan of the sealing rubber ring at the high-voltage output end, which could lead to oil leakage in severe cases. When installing, pay attention to the distance between the damping resistor and the side shell as well as other equipment to prevent abnormal discharges.
