A dividing head is a machine tool attachment that holds a workpiece between collets or between two centers, allowing it to rotate, divide, and locate. It can be categorized by its drive and indexing methods into worm gear dividing heads, dial dividing heads, hole plate dividing heads, slot plate dividing heads, end-tooth dividing heads, and other types (including inductive dividing heads and grating dividing heads). Functionally, they are divided into all-purpose dividing heads, semi-all-purpose dividing heads, and equal division dividing heads. Structurally, they come in vertical and horizontal dividing heads, tilting dividing heads, and cantilever dividing heads. As a general-purpose machine tool attachment, its structure mainly consists of the holding part, indexing and locating part, and drive part. Dividing heads are primarily used on milling machines, also commonly on drilling machines and planer grinders, and can be placed on a platform for marking by fitters. There are mainly two types of dividing heads: general-purpose dividing heads and optical dividing heads. CNC dividing heads are widely used on milling machines, drilling machines, and machining centers. With a four-axis control interface of the parent machine, they can perform synchronous four-axis processing.
