Pulsed dampeners, also known as surge tanks, pulsation dampers, air chambers, flow equalizers, and accumulator tanks, are commonly used devices to mitigate pulsation and water hammer phenomena caused by reciprocating pumps within pipelines. They utilize the compressibility of the gas within the cavity to store and release liquid, thereby reducing pressure and flow fluctuations in the pipeline. Selecting the appropriate model of a pulsed dampener can reduce pulsation by up to 90% or more, bringing the flow of the transported liquid closer to a laminar state. This can allow for a reduction in pipeline diameter, thus lowering installation costs. They are widely used in industries such as water treatment, environmental protection, power, chemicals, reverse osmosis, and papermaking.
