Fly ash storage silo
Fly ash storage silos enclose the storage of raw coal and fly ash, containing volatile substances within a sealed space. The volatile matter in coal is primarily composed of various hydrocarbons (with CH4 being the main component), and other compounds (such as carbon dioxide produced by the physical adsorption of water and minerals are not considered volatile matter). These volatiles are flammable and explosive, and coal itself is also flammable, thus making the storage silos more stringent in safety system requirements.

The fly ash storage facility is designed to enclose and store coal and fly ash, containing volatile substances within a sealed space. The volatile components of coal are primarily composed of various hydrocarbons (with CH4 being the main component) = other compounds (such as carbon dioxide produced by the physical adsorption of water and minerals do not fall under the category of volatiles). These volatiles are highly flammable and explosive, and coal itself is also flammable, thus making the storage facility for fly ash more stringent in its safety system requirements.

These volatiles are flammable and explosive, and coal itself is also flammable, thus requiring a more stringent safety system in fly ash storage silos. The volume of fly ash storage silos ranges from several thousand tons to tens of thousands of tons. Currently, larger silos on the market can store up to 100,000 tons of material, and in a closed environmental system, they can hold tens of thousands of tons of coal. Continuous operation of upstream and downstream workshops must be ensured, as the stored coal is in a dynamic process, requiring close monitoring of various parameters to prevent safety incidents. Additionally, due to the varying quality and combustibility of raw coal, and its different chemical properties during storage, this article only provides a brief introduction to a mature safety system; other specific projects must be analyzed in conjunction with coal quality, environmental factors, and storage conditions. Briefly, fly ash storage silos are constructed from welded sections, with a circular, flat, ground-level, straight steel cylinder design, used for storing powdered materials such as cement or fly ash. The application of fly ash storage silos in China began in 2007, initially in the cement industry, and by 2008, it expanded to the storage of fly ash. Since 2016, with increasingly stringent environmental protection regulations, fly ash storage silos have been widely used in coal storage, aggregate storage sites, and various fields requiring large-scale storage of powdered, granular raw materials, and finished products.
