By adhesive bonding strength
Structural adhesives should possess high shear and tensile strengths, as well as significant non-uniform tensile separation strength to ensure that bonded joints can withstand vibrations, fatigue, and impact loads over extended periods. They should also exhibit high thermal and weather resistance. Typically, the steel-steel room temperature shear strength should be greater than 25MPa, with tensile strength of at least 33MPa. The non-uniform tensile separation strength should exceed 40kN/m.
The secondary structural adhesive can withstand moderate loads. Typically, it has a shear strength of 17-25 MPa and a tensile strength of 20-50 kN/m.
Unstructured adhesives, also known as general-purpose adhesives, maintain relatively high strength at room temperature; however, as temperature increases, their bonding strength decreases rapidly. They are only suitable for areas with minimal stress.

Specialty adhesives, including high-temperature-resistant adhesives (service temperature ≥ 150℃), low-temperature-resistant adhesives (withstanding -50℃ or lower), strain adhesives (for bonding strain gauges), conductive adhesives (volume resistivity 10-3 to 10-4 Ω·cm), sealing adhesives (for vacuum and mechanical sealing), optical adhesives (colorless and transparent, resistant to light aging, matching refractive index with optical components), corrosion-resistant adhesives, structural adhesives, and more.
Additionally, they can be categorized by the type of hardener, such as amine-cured epoxy, anhydride-cured adhesives, etc. They can also be divided into two-component adhesives and one-component adhesives, pure epoxy adhesives, and modified epoxy adhesives (such as epoxy-nylon, epoxy-polythiourane, epoxy-nitrile, epoxy-polyurethane, epoxy-phenolic, silicone epoxy, etc.).
