Non-expansive steel structure fire-resistant coating: fireproof and insulating principle

The fire-retardant principle of non-expanding fire-retardant coatings applied to steel structural components involves the coating experiencing minimal volume change upon exposure to fire, yet with a low thermal conductivity that slows the transfer of heat to the base material. The coating itself is non-combustible, acting as a barrier and preventing heat radiation, thereby avoiding direct flame and high-temperature attack on the steel components. Moreover, the reaction between certain components in the coating upon ignition to form non-combustible gases is an endothermic process, which consumes a significant amount of heat, aiding in reducing the temperature within the building. This results in a significant fire-retardant effect, providing fire-resistant insulation for steel. Additionally, when exposed to fire, this type of steel structural fire-retardant coating does not change in volume, forming a glaze-like protective layer that can insulate oxygen, preventing it from contacting the protected flammable base materials, thereby avoiding or reducing combustion reactions. However, the glaze-like protective layer produced by this type of coating often has a high thermal conductivity, resulting in poor insulation. To achieve a certain level of fire and heat insulation, thick-coating fire retardant coatings typically require a thicker layer to meet the required fire and heat insulation performance.
