Demand for Hardness Testing

During steel plate production, local hardening (commonly referred to as hard spots) may occur on the surface. This hardening can lead to issues or product failure during later processing and use. As a result, an increasing number of material technology specifications require surface hardness testing. Methods like Vickers, Brinell, and Rockwell hardness tests are commonly used for sample testing, offering high precision but causing damage to the samples. The Leeb rebound hardness test can perform non-destructive testing, but it has a larger measurement error. None of these methods are suitable for routine inspections. Therefore, we have developed a digital multi-channel steel plate hardness testing instrument, and further developed a portable non-destructive testing system.

Portable Non-Destructive Hardness Testing System for Steel Plates

The inspection object is hot-rolled steel plates, and the inspection system consists of the body of the vehicle, the actuating mechanism of the inspection module, the control mechanism of the inspection module, power supply, instruments, computers, encoder wheels, and more. It is used for manual inspection of large flat semi-finished products.

Equipped with 8 probe assemblies on the detection module, it can perform linear scanning as well as inspections. Each probe features independent multi-dimensional tracking capabilities, allowing it to closely adhere to the steel plate being scanned, thereby minimizing adverse effects on the detection caused by changes in the size of the local contact surface of the steel plate.

The vehicle is integrated with a computer system, where test results are displayed on the screen in real-time. The system software evaluates the results and is capable of recording and managing test data.
