Product Introduction

Austenitic stainless steel refers to stainless steel that has an austenitic structure at room temperature. When the steel contains approximately 18% Cr, 8% to 25% Ni, and 0.1% C, it has a stable austenitic structure. Austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel includes 18Cr-8Ni steel and high Cr-Ni series steels developed by increasing Cr, Ni content and adding elements such as Mo, Cu, Si, Nb, and Ti. Austenitic stainless steel is non-magnetic and possesses high toughness and ductility, although its strength is relatively low. It cannot be strengthened through phase transformation and can only be hardened through cold working. The addition of elements like S, Ca, Se, and Te enhances its machinability.

 

Features

This steel is resistant to corrosion from oxidizing acid mediums, and if it contains elements like Mo and Cu, it can also withstand sulfuric, phosphoric, and organic acids such as formic, acetic, and urea. The steel's carbon content, if below 0.03% or containing Ti and Ni, can enhance its intergranular corrosion resistance. Austenitic stainless steel with high silicon content exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to concentrated nitric acid. Due to its excellent overall properties, austenitic stainless steel is widely used in various industries.

 

Composition

Evolved from the composition of 18-8 stainless steel, the following significant developments have mainly been achieved:

1) Improved Mo content to enhance pitting and stress corrosion resistance.

2) Adding C or Ti, Nb reduces the tendency for intergranular corrosion.

3) Adding Ni and Cr enhances high-temperature oxidation resistance and strength.

4) Adding Ni to enhance stress corrosion resistance.

5) Adding S or Se improves cutting properties and component surface precision.

 

Application

Austenitic 304 stainless steel plate, said to offer corrosion and rust resistance, along with good plasticity and toughness, making it easy for stamping and forming. With a density of 7.93g/cm³, 304 stainless steel is a common type of stainless steel, also known as 18/8 stainless in the industry. Its metal products can withstand high temperatures and have good processing properties, thus widely used in industrial, furniture decoration, and food industries.
