Recently, market supervision departments and industry associations have reminded consumers and buyers that while fire-resistant doors and burglar-proof doors both fall under the category of safety door products, there are essential differences in their functional positioning, core standards, and application scenarios. It is necessary to scientifically differentiate between them to avoid confusion and misuse.
From a core functionality perspective, fire doors prioritize "fire and smoke prevention" as their main objective. The design focus is on effectively blocking the spread of flames and toxic smoke during a fire, utilizing high-temperature-resistant door materials (such as steel, wooden fire-resistant panels), fire-resistant hardware, and sealing strips. This ensures critical time for evacuation and rescue efforts. According to the National Standard GB 12955-2008 for Fire Doors, they must meet certain fire resistance and thermal insulation requirements for a specified duration (e.g., fire doors with a fire resistance rating must have a minimum耐火 time of 1.5 hours).
The anti-theft door, with "preventing illegal intrusion" as its core, focuses on resisting burglary attempts such as forced entry and prying by utilizing high-strength door panels (e.g., cold-rolled steel plates), anti-picking locks, reinforced hinges, and other structural features. It ensures the safety of property and residents. The standard followed is GB 17565-2007 General Technical Conditions for Anti-Theft Security Doors. Based on the anti-theft performance, doors are categorized into four levels, with the highest anti-theft level doors offering the strongest protection and a resistance time of not less than 30 minutes against destruction.
In terms of application, fire doors are commonly installed in public areas of buildings, such as stairwells, elevator vestibules, and power rooms, making them a crucial part of the building's fire protection facilities and requiring fire inspection approval. Security doors, on the other hand, are primarily used for residential entrance doors, shopfronts, and other private or specific area security entries, emphasizing practicality in daily anti-theft protection.
Industry experts emphasize that some consumers have misconceptions, believing that "fire-resistant doors are the same as burglar-proof doors" or that "burglar-proof doors can replace fire-resistant doors." In reality, the two should not be interchanged. For instance, if a burglar-proof door does not meet fire resistance standards, it may deform and fail quickly during a fire, failing to provide smoke and fire containment. Conversely, a fire-resistant door without a burglar-proof lock is also unlikely to meet residential security needs. It is recommended to pay attention to product labels (fire-resistant doors must have a fire product identification mark, and burglar-proof doors must indicate the security level) when making a purchase, choose compliant products based on actual needs, and ensure that safety features are accurately matched.
