    Pumps, as a common dynamic equipment in industrial production, are now being used under increasingly stringent conditions in some high-demand applications. Shielded pumps, due to the absence of shaft seals, can achieve zero leakage and are thus increasingly prevalent in chemical plant applications. Some may wonder, what are the differences between shielded pumps, magnetic pumps, and centrifugal pumps? In this issue, we will focus on highlighting these distinctions.

    Sealed屏蔽pumps, or leak-free structures, are suitable for transferring flammable, valuable, corrosive, and toxic liquids. Due to their non-leaking nature, shielded pumps are beneficial for flammable liquid systems; they offer exceptional economic benefits for valuable and corrosive liquids.

    Unique Features of the Shielded Pump

    The motor and pump are integrated with a coaxial connection between the pump and the motor.

    2. The stator interior and the rotor exterior are equipped with shielding sleeves, which are internally connected to the pump.

    Installation methods include horizontal and vertical options.

    4. The motor eliminates cooling fans, cooling the motor through a circulating medium between the stator and rotor, while also employing surface cooling of the motor base.

    Advantages of屏蔽Pump

    1. Fully enclosed. The structure features no dynamic seals; only static seals are present at the pump housing, ensuring zero leakage. This design is particularly suitable for transporting flammable, explosive, valuable, and toxic, corrosive, or radioactive liquids.

    2. Each rotor and stator has a shielding sleeve to prevent contact between the motor's rotor and stator with materials. Even if the shielding sleeve is ruptured, there is no risk of external leakage.

    3. Compact structure with minimal footprint. The pump and motor are an integrated unit, eliminating the need for center alignment during disassembly. Low requirements for the base and foundation, with reduced daily maintenance work and low repair costs.

    4. The machine operates smoothly with low noise and does not require lubrication. Due to the absence of rolling bearings and motor fans, lubrication is unnecessary, and noise levels are reduced.

    5. Wide Range of Applications. Meets requirements for various working conditions, including high temperatures, high pressures, low temperatures, and high melting points.

    Disadvantages of Shielded Pumps

    1. Due to the sliding bearings used in the shielded pump and its lubrication by the transported medium, media with poor lubricity are not suitable for transport via shielded pumps. Generally, the viscosity range for shielded pump media is 0.1 to 20 mPa.s.

    2. The efficiency of the shrouded pump is typically lower than that of a single-face mechanical seal centrifugal pump, but roughly equivalent to that of a double-face mechanical seal centrifugal pump.

    3. Operating at low flow rates for extended periods can lead to reduced efficiency in the屏蔽泵, causing overheating and evaporation of the liquid, resulting in dry running and ultimately damaging the sliding bearings.

    Application of屏蔽泵

    1. Abnormal pressure conditions. When used under circumstances where the pressure on the pump's suction side is high and the pressure difference between the suction and discharge sides is small, the stuffing box may withstand additional stress.

    2. Applications requiring high vacuum levels. When using stuffing boxes, air can enter if the shaft is slightly off-center or worn.

    3. Applications involving alternating vacuum and pressure operations. Filling boxes or sealing structures designed for normal vacuum operation cannot be used under pressure conditions.

    4. Handling precious liquids. Liquids can cause significant economic losses.

    Handling hazardous liquid situations. Risks to life. If gland packing is used, considerable amounts of valuable substances can be lost annually due to leaks. If gland packing is used, the leakage of hazardous liquids can cause harm to human health,

    6. Situations involving explosive gases. Although flammable liquids, such as gasoline and jet fuel, can be transferred using a centrifugal pump equipped with a rotating seal and a explosion-proof motor, leaks and vaporized liquids can turn the entire area into an explosive hazard.

    7. Handling scenarios involving radioactive liquids. Radioactive liquids are not permitted to leak from the packing box. Moreover, many packing materials are not suitable for long-term contact with radioactive liquids.

    8. Handling corrosive liquids. Besides local corrosion due to the leakage of the stuffing box, the process equipment can also be eroded by the steam produced from the leakage of corrosive liquids.

    9. Handling hazardous liquid situations. Odorous and harmful gases, such as those resulting from the leakage of filling boxes, can create severe conditions that prevent operation.

    10. Handling liquids that are prone to reaction. When using a屏蔽泵shielded pump, the liquid will not solidify due to contamination from air, moisture, filler lubricants, and other substances, nor will it crystallize or cause other hindrances.
