Tungsten is a silvery-white metal resembling steel. It has a high melting point and a very low vapor pressure, with a slow evaporation rate. Tungsten is chemically very stable, not reacting with air or water at room temperature. In China, tungsten is primarily extracted from two types of ore: wolframite (tungsten-manganese ore) and scheelite (calcium tungstate). There are two methods of tungsten smelting: fire smelting and water smelting. During smelting, black tungsten concentrate or white tungsten concentrate is used. However, due to varying smelting processes, when a deposit contains both wolframite and scheelite, the ore bodies are classified and the reserves are calculated. When the ore contains a combination of wolframite and scheelite, black and white tungsten concentrates are separately selected for smelting. Black and white tungsten concentrates are the main industrial raw materials for tungsten extraction.
