Welding DefectsWelding defects typically refer to irregular and discontinuous phenomena on the surface of welded parts. These defects can lead to component scrapping, high repair costs, significant performance decline of components under working conditions, and, in extreme cases, catastrophic failures, resulting in property and life losses.

Moreover, due to the inherent weaknesses of welding technology and the properties of metals, there are always certain defects present in the welding process. A good weld is impossible to achieve, hence the assessment of welding quality is crucial. Defects in welding can be detected through images, and the severity of each defect can be accurately measured, which will help and prevent the occurrence of the aforementioned hazardous situations.

This time, we utilized phased array ultrasonic flaw detectors and probes to conduct experimental inspections on焊接workpieces from a certain factory.

    PART02

    Detection Solution

    Detection Configuration

Omniscan Series Phased Array Ultrasonic Flaw Detectors

    Probe: 10MHz, V311 Probe; 10MHz, 64 Chip; NW1 Probe.

Coupling Agent: For pure water, free of bubbles, dust, and impurities, with water temperature maintained around 20℃-35℃.

    PART03

    Test Results

3.1 Utilizing the Omniscan phased array flaw detector with a 10MHz V311 probe, and conducting a water immersion scanning inspection, the results below are obtained from the raised workpiece underneath:

3.2UtilizeOmniscan Phased Array Ultrasonic Flaw Detector+10MHz, V311 Probe; Detection results using water immersion scanning, with the workpiece placed at the bottom of the water tank:

3.3UtilizeOmniscan Phased Array Ultrasonic Flaw Detector+10L64NW1 Probe, featuring 16 chips; the detection results in the water immersion scan mode, with the workpiece placed at the bottom of the water tank, are as follows:

    Conclusion

After numerous comparative tests and repeated experimentation, we have arrived at the conclusion:

Employing ultrasonic phased array technology with a 10MHz V311 probe and a 10MHz, 64-element NW1 probe; the workpiece is placed in different states, and the echo intensity is judged accordingly. The deeper the color in the image, the stronger the echo intensity, the greater the energy, and potentially the larger the defect.Defect signals were found on both the disk side and the bottom tungsten-molybdenum connection in any state, as indicated by the red circles in the above images.
