    On June 8th, exciting news came from the Zhuhai Honghe Bridge, constructed by the China Railway Bridge Bureau. The first cable-stayed bridge of the Honghe Bridge was successfully completed with zero tolerance in steel girder construction, heralding the countdown to the project's completion and opening before the 2020 Zhuhai Air Show.



    The Zhuhai Honghe Bridge, a highway bridge composed of two main spans of 500 meters each connected by a double-tower, double-cable surface composite girder cable-stayed bridge, boasts a single-span of 500 meters, making it the largest bridge in Zhuhai. This achievement fills a gap in the construction of long-span composite cable-stayed bridges worldwide. Both main bridges employ a semi-floating system, with the Honghe Bridge's main bridge over the Modaomen Channel being the one completed with the steel girder connection. The precision of the steel girder connection is crucial as the highlight of the steel girder construction. The project department utilized a timed connection technique for the middle span steel girder connection, ensuring that the connection commenced at the scheduled time, effectively reducing the uncertainty of temperature-related steel girder cuts, enhancing the timeliness and reliability of the connection, and lowering construction risks. During the connection, the project department meticulously organized the process, ensuring the completion of each stage of the connection with speed, accuracy, and stability. Continuous precise monitoring of the connection gap was also conducted, with real-time adjustments made to achieve a zero-error steel girder connection.




    Since its construction began, the Honghe Bridge Project Department of China Railway Bridge Bureau has faced and overcome the challenges of super typhoons "Lekima" and "Mangkhut," as well as the impact of COVID-19. The department has rallied its efforts, overcoming difficulties along the way. To successfully complete the target of closing the main bridge before the typhoon arrived, the project actively introduced four new technologies and explored innovative construction methods. By applying the "deep silt geological sand bag embankment island drilling platform construction method," complex and time-consuming offshore operations were transformed into land-based work, saving construction time and costs. The pile foundation construction employed a "rotary drilling + reverse circulation impact drilling" combined drilling technique, overcoming the challenge of large-scale pearl-like cave pile foundation construction. The steel beam installation used a patented method – the top of pier steel beam non-supporting installation method, which not only saved construction costs but also improved efficiency. Additionally, the stay cable construction utilized the DZZL16 model 250 intelligent single-tensioning device, applying the equivalent tensioning method to ensure uniform cable tension, keeping the tension error within 1%. This ensures that all technical indicators of the stayed bridge's lifeline meet the requirements.




    After three years of refinement, the Great Divide has become a passageway. The first cable-stayed bridge of the Honghe Bridge has successfully been joined, marking a significant milestone for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Simultaneously, the "Dripping Sea" shaped main tower of the Honghe Bridge, adorned with an arched arrangement of cable stays, supports the majestic dragon-shaped steel structure soaring over the great divide, establishing itself as a new landmark of Zhuhai.
