Steam pipeline insulation standards aim to reduce heat loss from equipment and pipelines during operation, prevent temperature drop of media in the production process, delay condensation of the media, maintain production capacity and safety of equipment and pipelines, save energy, improve work efficiency, lower environmental temperatures, improve working conditions, and prevent operators from harm.
1. Subject Matter and Scope
This standard stipulates the principle requirements for the performance, thermal insulation design, construction and acceptance of thermal insulation projects, as well as the testing and evaluation of thermal insulation effects for thermal insulation materials and their products.
This standard applies to the power, heating, and general thermal usage sectors.
Equipment, pipelines, and their accessories with any of the following operating conditions must be insulated:
a. Surface temperature exceeding 323 K (50℃).
b. Areas in the process production where the reduction of medium temperature drop or delaying medium condensation is required.
c. Equipment, piping, and accessories in the production process that do not require insulation, with an external surface temperature exceeding 333 K (60°C), which requires frequent operation and maintenance, and for which other measures cannot be taken to prevent such occurrences.
Equipment, piping, and their accessories with any of the following conditions are not subject to this standard:
a. Areas in the production process where insulation is not recommended or necessary.
b. Temporary facilities under construction
c. Various thermal instrumentation systems.
