Dust refers to solid particles suspended in the air. According to the International Organization for Standardization, solid particles with a diameter less than 75μm are defined as dust. The presence of dust in the atmosphere is one of the main reasons for maintaining the Earth's temperature. Too much or too little dust in the atmosphere can have catastrophic effects on the environment.

Primary sources of productive dust include:

Solid particles formed by mechanical impact, grinding, and rolling, which are suspended in the air as fine particles due to air dispersion.

(2) Fumes formed by condensation or oxidation of steam produced during material heating.

(3) Smoke formed from incomplete combustion.

Methods for dust control include bag dust collection, wet ventilation dust removal, water or spray dust removal, and biological nano-film dust suppression, among others.
