Rockwool boards, also known as thermal insulation and decorative rockwool boards, are inorganic fiber boards made by melting and processing basalt at high temperatures. Successfully trialed in June 1981, rockwool boards are a new type of insulation, fire-retardant, and sound-absorbing material.
Rockwool board features
Fire-resistant
The raw material for the external wall mineral wool board is natural volcanic rock, making it an non-combustible building material and fire-resistant material.
Primary fire-resistant features:
✦ Features a high fire rating of A1, effectively preventing the spread of fire.
✓ Extremely stable in size; does not expand, contract, or deform during a fire.
High-temperature resistant, melting point above 1000°C.
No smoke or burning droplets/debris produced in fire.
✦ Will not release harmful environmental substances and gases in the event of a fire.
Insulation and thermal retention
The exterior mineral wool board features fine, long, and flexible fibers with low slag content. Consequently, it boasts a low thermal conductivity and excellent insulation properties.
Acoustic noise reduction
Rock wool is an ideal soundproofing material, with a large number of fine, long fibers that form a porous interconnected structure, determining that Sikada rock wool is an excellent sound-absorbing and noise-reduction material.
Hydrophobic
Water-repellent rock wool products can achieve a water-repellency rate of up to 99.9%; they have low water absorption and no capillary penetration.
Moisture resistance properties
Rock wool has a moisture absorption rate of less than 0.2% in environments with high relative humidity. The quality absorption rate is less than 0.3% when tested according to the ASTM C1104 or ASTM 1104M method.
Non-corrosive
Rock wool has stable chemical properties with a pH value of 7-8, neutral or slightly alkaline, suitable for carbon steel and stainless steel.
Aluminum and other metal materials are all non-corrosive.
Safety and Environmental Protection
Rock wool is free from asbestos and harmful substances to the environment such as CFCs, HFCs, and HCFCs. It is not subject to corrosion, mildew, or bacterial growth.
