
Melamine (sān jù qíng àn), commonly known as melamine or protein essence, is chemically named "1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamine" by IUPAC. It is a triazine-class nitrogen-containing heterocyclic organic compound used as a chemical raw material. It is a white monoclinic crystal, almost tasteless, slightly soluble in water (3.1g/L at room temperature), and soluble in methanol, formaldehyde, acetic acid, hot ethylene glycol, glycerin, pyridine, etc. It is insoluble in acetone, ethers, and harmful to the body; it is not suitable for food processing or as food additives.
