NFSI is a novel, stable, and mild fluorinating reagent that can introduce fluorine atoms into the ortho position of carbonyl groups in organic molecules. It is suitable for single fluorination reactions of electron-rich aromatic compounds, enol siles, and enol lithium salts. Current research hotspots include the Nazarov cyclization reaction forming a five-membered ring under iron or cobalt catalysis, and asymmetric catalysis for enantioselective α-fluorination.
