Principle of Operation for Screw Chiller Units
The principle of the centrifugal chiller is that the refrigerant absorbs heat from the indoor air within the evaporator, thereby evaporating into low-temperature, low-pressure vapor. The evaporator is typically designed with fins or pipes.
To increase the heat exchange area and improve efficiency, the low-temperature, low-pressure steam after evaporation is drawn into the vortex compressor. The vortex compressor consists of a fixed spiral disk and a rotating screw.
Steam is repeatedly compressed within the cavity between the turbine and spiral disc, thereby increasing its pressure and temperature. The highly compressed, hot gas is then directed to the condenser. Inside the condenser,
Steam releases heat to cooling water or air, condensing into high-pressure liquid. This process is typically carried out outdoors to avoid indoor temperature increase. As the high-pressure liquid passes through a throttling device (such as an expansion valve or capillary tube),
The pressure drops abruptly, transforming into low-pressure liquid. This process is accompanied by volume expansion and heat absorption, providing a refrigerant at low temperature and pressure for the subsequent evaporation process. The throttled low-temperature and low-pressure liquid returns to the evaporator.
Restart the evaporation process to complete a full refrigeration cycle.
