Expansive vermiculite thermal insulation bricks are insulation materials made from expanded vermiculite and a binder, featuring regular shapes. They include cement expanded vermiculite products, water glass expanded vermiculite products, and asphalt expanded vermiculite products, among others.
Vermiculite thermal insulation bricks have a density of 0.4~0.8g/cm3, a thermal conductivity at room temperature of 293~502.4J/(m·h·℃) (70~120cal/(m·h·℃)), compressive strength <2.45MPa, and water absorption rate of about 6%.
Granular expanded vermiculite is typically mixed with an appropriate amount of high-strength binder, lightly pressed into shape, and then dried or baked to produce the final product. The thermal conductivity of the binder is usually higher than that of the expanded vermiculite, so although the addition of the binder gives the expanded vermiculite new applications, it also reduces its insulating properties.
Vermiculite thermal insulation bricks are thin-walled hollow structure products with low strength and melting points. Their耐火 resistance and high-temperature performance are lower than those of other lightweight refractory materials, making them unsuitable for load-bearing areas or medium to high-temperature insulation materials. Their operating temperature range is between 800 to 1100°C. Vermiculite thermal insulation bricks are widely used in roof treatments and sound insulation applications.
