In this material, the四方相ZrO2 transforms into monoclinic phase under the action of temperature or stress through martensitic phase transformation, a process that absorbs energy to achieve phase transformation toughening — perfectly consistent with the toughening mechanism of TRIP steel in metallic materials. Currently, a controlled atmosphere oxygen probe using partially stabilized ZrO2 has been successfully applied in production practice, with a service life exceeding one year.
