Inflatable expansion seals are a new type of seal made of silicone rubber with a hollow structure inside. These seals are paired with compressed air sources and utilize inflation and deflation to alter the structure of the silicone rubber seal. Due to the flexibility of silicone rubber, the inflated seal is malleable. After contact with the sealing surface, it undergoes flexible curve deformation, allowing it to seal gaps that are linear or curved in shape. Upon deflation, the seal automatically retracts and returns to its original shape, restoring the equipment gap. They can quickly achieve both sealing and unsealing, with repeated inflation and deflation capable of up to 1 million cycles. In operation, the internal gas pressure of the seal body provides high sealing strength, resulting in excellent sealing performance. The shape of the hollow structure of the seal body is designed based on the seal gap size, fluid pressure, and expansion/contraction frequency. Like solid-core seals, inflatable seals can achieve radial and axial sealing for equipment.
The inflatable expansion seals are made of silicone material. Silicone can withstand high temperatures and tearing, and is unaffected by any other chemical media except for reactions with strong acids and alkalis, making it an ideal material for inflatable sealing.
