Circular planar air-bearing bearings utilizing Porous Media Technology™ are used in a variety of applications, from spacecraft robot simulators to roundness checkers.
The popularity of air bearing is due to their versatility. They are suitable for both linear and rotational motion applications. The bearings have a shape resembling a hockey puck, with a porous carbon base on one side. Air is forced through the carbon, and must take a natural winding path to reach the bearing surface. This process forms a hard, even air cushion on the bearing surface, creating our reliable contactless, frictionless motion. These bearings can also be preloaded with vacuum, thereby enhancing positioning accuracy.

Due to its exceptional damping capability, the circular plane air bearing is the ideal choice for machine tool systems. Furthermore, these same vacuum preloaded bearings have been utilized to establish X/Y gantry configurations for precise positioning along the Z-axis.
Standard air (float) bearing components (air-filled), capable of constructing straight-line motion. Diameter ranges from 20mm to 450mm, with high load-bearing capacity and low gas consumption. This type of air bearing optimizes the stiffness and hardness of the air film, allowing it to operate at low float heights. Assembly and adjustment are convenient with our central bolt and ball head connection. This type of float bearing is coated for emergency operation, making it extremely robust and reliable.
