Global LNG Industry Development
The main component of natural gas is methane, a permanent gas that cannot be liquefied by compression at normal temperatures; it only turns into a liquid at low temperatures (-162 degrees). Since the 1920s, with the rapid development of cryogenic industrial technology, it has become possible to liquefy large amounts of natural gas.
In 1910, the United States began industrial-scale natural gas liquefaction. In 1917, Cabot received the first U.S. patent related to natural gas liquefaction, storage, and transportation. That same year, the world's first liquefied methane plant was built in the West Virginia region of the United States, where methane liquefaction production was initiated.
In 1937, Egerton from the UK proposed using liquefied natural gas (LNG) to regulate peak loads in urban gas supply. By liquefying and storing natural gas, it could meet the peak demand during winter and for emergency situations. The Shanghai Pudong LNG production plant, which started operation at the end of 1999 with the assistance of the French Sofirigas Engineering Company and has a daily design capacity of 120,000 cubic meters, is China's first natural gas backup/peak-shaving station to adopt LNG technology.

In 1957, British Gas decided to enter into a contract with Coniston Corporation to import liquefied natural gas to supplement the city's gas supply shortages. They established the world's first liquefied natural gas receiving terminal on the island of Canvey in the United Kingdom for storing the imported LNG.
In 1959, the U.S. Conoco International Methane Company constructed the world's first LNG carrier, the "Methane Pioneer," which transported 2,200 tons of liquefied natural gas from Lake Charles, Louisiana, to the Canvey Island receiving facility in the UK from January 28 to February 20 of the following year, marking the birth of the global LNG industry.
In 1960, Shell UK acquired a 40% stake in the company. The "Methane Pioneer" tanker was commissioned for LNG transportation from Algeria to the UK in 1964, rapidly boosting the global LNG commercial trade.
The burgeoning LNG community gasification trend in China is poised to significantly accelerate the launch of China's LNG industry and the rapid development of the global LNG industry, with the continuous emergence of domestic LNG liquefaction plants and the increase in coastal import LNG receiving bases.
Low-temperature Storage Tank Performance:
Low-temperature tanks, also known as liquid nitrogen tanks, low-temperature storage tanks, also known as liquid argon tanks or liquid oxygen tanks, are vertical or horizontal double-layer vacuum insulated storage vessels. The inner shell is made of Austenitic stainless steel S30408; the outer shell material varies by user location, chosen according to national standards as Q235-B or 345R. The space between the inner and outer shells is filled with insulating material, Pearlite sand, and then vacuumized. The product undergoes on-site inspection by the National Technical Supervision Administration and is issued with a pressure vessel supervision and inspection certificate. Product specifications range from 5 to 100 cubic meters, with working pressure of 0.8/1.6 MPa. Nitrogen is a main raw material for the nitrogen fertilizer industry. In the metallurgical industry, nitrogen is primarily used as a protective gas, such as in rolling, galvanizing, chromium plating, heat treatment, and continuous casting. Additionally, blowing nitrogen into the blast furnace can improve the quality of iron. It is widely used in the electronics, chemical, petroleum, and glass industries.
