DX-201 Oxide Scale Detector


The DX-201 Non-Destructive Oxide Scale Tester is a power plant oxide scale detection instrument developed by our company. It employs a testing probe designed by our company, combined with a general fluxmeter. On one hand, it can quickly and effectively detect the oxidation scale spalling condition inside the stainless steel tubes of power plant boilers, preventing over-oxidation that could lead to pipe bursts. On the other hand, it also provides effective data support for the overall oxidation corrosion status of the boiler's heating surface by detecting the internal oxide scale of the stainless steel tubes, thereby aiding in the safe assessment of the boiler.


Currently, in both domestic and international thermal power plant units, the phenomenon of tube blockage and burst caused by the spalling of the oxidation layer on the inner wall of stainless steel tubes in high-temperature superheaters is not uncommon. Traditionally, this is checked using X-ray filming, which is time-consuming and difficult to execute. The Austenitic Stainless Steel Oxide Scale Non-destructive Tester is based on the principle that Austenitic stainless steel is non-magnetic while oxides are magnetic, allowing for the conversion of magnetic signals into electrical signals. The boiler tube inner oxide scale non-destructive tester is a detection instrument developed by our company for电厂oxide scale detection. It employs our company-designed test probes combined with a standard fluxmeter. On one hand, it can quickly and effectively detect the condition of oxide scale spalling and accumulation inside the boiler's stainless steel tubes, eliminating the risk of bursting due to excessive oxide scale. On the other hand, it can also provide effective data support for the overall oxidation and corrosion status of the boiler's heat-affected surface of the stainless steel tubes, thereby aiding in the safe assessment of the boiler.
This measuring instrument is suitable for the measurement of rust accumulation on the inner layer of magnetically non-magnetic stainless steel pipes. It is equipped with a rechargeable battery pack, which does not require an external power source during testing, making it ideal for fieldwork environments. A single full charge can last for 4 hours. This product has been adopted by several companies including Hunan Xiangtan Power Generation Co., Ltd., Wuhan University, Henan Nanyang Yahe River Power Generation Co., Ltd., Anhui Huainan Pingwei Power Plant, and Changsha Thermal Power Plant, with positive feedback.

Instructions for Use
Please read the instruction manual before use to ensure proper operation and avoid unnecessary trouble. Then, check if all the instrument components are complete.
● Power On: Select the matching test probe based on the size and model of the test pipeline, then connect it to the FE-201 Oxide Scale Detector. Press the red "POWER" switch on the front panel of the instrument. A red light will illuminate to indicate the switch is on, and the meter will display digital readings. The display will show "0.00".
● Nulling: After turning on, the gauge reading will fluctuate. Rotate the "ADJUST" nulling knob to stabilize the reading. If the reading jumps faster, adjust in the opposite direction. The reading fluctuation should be below one character per second for normal use. Adjusting to below one character per ten seconds will yield better performance.
● Zeroing: Place the probe on a location free of magnetic or ferrous-nickel metals, then press the "RESET" button on the instrument's front panel or the touch switch on the probe to zero the gauge.
● Measurement: First, move the probe of the detector along the simulated pipeline to take measurements; the instrument's gauge will show corresponding readings. If the probe is stationary, the readings will remain stable. This helps understand the proportional relationship between test data and the accumulation of oxides, determining the corresponding amount of data to be cut. If the simulated pipeline contains oxides to be cut to a certain degree, the detector will display a result of "4.00mWb," which then serves as a reference value. During field testing, slide the probe along the pipeline; when encountering a blocked section, the gauge reading on the detector will quickly increase, such as to "4.10mWb." Perform approximately 3 checks at this location to determine the average value of the three readings, and decide whether to cut and clear the blockage based on the experimental data. It is recommended to frequently reset the instrument during the testing process, such as by moving the probe away from the pipeline, like in the air, and then resetting it to minimize the accumulation of reading errors due to instrument drift.
● Charging: The detector can be continuously used for 4 hours after a full charge. If the battery is low, the following symptoms may occur: No display on the meter after startup; the meter shows zero, with no change in test readings; and the test results are significantly low. In this case, an 8-12 hour charge is required to fully recharge the battery before use. It is recommended to charge the device once a month for about 8 hours if it will not be used for an extended period.
● Available probe models: Ø38mm, Ø47mm, Ø51mm, Ø57mm, Ø63.5mm; also customizable to customer specifications. Test probes are not affected by pipe thickness and diameter variations in terms of testing sensitivity.
● Other: Peak Lock. Press the "HOLD" button on the instrument panel to activate the peak lock feature, and the gauge will display the value during this test. Press the button again to deactivate the lock. It is suitable for areas with rapid magnetic field changes. Caution is advised when using it in pipeline testing, as activating this lock feature will cause the gauge to lock on displaying only one value, such as "4.100." Is it a single location or multiple? Where is it? Or should the lock be released to slowly move the probe and determine the location.
