Product Introduction

Crack Prevention Tape, also known as anti-crack tape, high molecular weight stress-absorbing film, and stress-absorbing tape, is made of reinforced fiber materials with good flexural resistance, high tensile strength, and long-lasting corrosion resistance as the base, covered with high-performance viscoelastic materials processed in special proportions on both sides. The tape is composed of asphalt-based high molecular polymer, high-tensile fabric base, and high-strength fabric that can withstand high temperatures and is compatible with asphalt. It features self-adhesiveness, ease of application, and can be directly applied to crack locations. This structure is an organic integration of several crack prevention measures on modern highways and is an upgraded product for crack and water prevention on asphalt-to-black road conversions.

When cement concrete cracks and deforms, due to the tensile strength of the "crack prevention tape" base material being greater than the bonding strength, the originally concentrated stress is dispersed through the crack prevention tape's covering layer, preventing and reducing the likelihood of asphalt concrete cracking. When adjacent cement concrete slabs are repeatedly cut up and down within a certain range, the reinforcing fibers used possess excellent bending and extensibility properties. Therefore, the "crack prevention tape" is less likely to break, maintaining its excellent self-adhesive sealing property, blocking ground water from eroding the cement concrete slab's expansion joints (cracks), ensuring stable foundation, and reducing factors that lead to cracking.

 

Key Features

Excellent crack resistance

2mm thick "Crack Preventive Tape." When two cement concrete slabs horizontally displace 1mm (base joint width of 4mm), the tape provides excellent relief and dispersion. After being stretched and compressed 10,000 times, the "Crack Preventive Tape" remains undamaged.

Excellent low-temperature flexibility and good resistance to up and down shearing properties.

Due to the soft and elastic nature of the "crack-proof tape" base material, the material does not crack even after bending 1800 degrees. When the "crack-proof tape" is applied between two cement concrete slabs with a vertical displacement of 0.5mm (base seam width of 4mm), after 10,000 cycles of repeated vertical displacement, the "crack-proof tape" remains undamaged due to its excellent flexibility and elongation, as the allowable vertical displacement during conventional design is generally not greater than 0.06mm.

Excellent adhesive performance

"Crack-resistant tape" exhibits excellent adhesion to both cement concrete subbase and asphalt concrete surface, with a bond strength exceeding 4N/mm. After being compacted with hot asphalt concrete, its bonding performance significantly improves, making it less prone to sliding and damage under horizontal forces.

◎Waterproof and airtight seal

Due to the self-adhesive covering layer on the bottom surface of the "crack prevention tape" being over 1mm, it integrates perfectly with the cement concrete after being rolled by hot asphalt concrete, significantly enhancing the waterproofing seal. This prevents ground water from seeping into the cracks of the cement concrete slabs, thereby improving the stability of the foundation. Particularly when subjected to the horizontal thrust from moving vehicles, the tape's excellent self-adhesiveness and flexibility ensure the integrity of the waterproofing seal.

Installation-friendly

Physical Properties

Base seam tape is a high-strength, high-elongation, and high-adhesive active waterproofing material with a net thickness of over 2mm, effectively enhancing the road's crack resistance and waterproofing performance. Geotextile, on the other hand, is a fiber fabric suitable for earthwork applications, either permeable or impermeable, with a general thickness less than 1mm, lower tensile strength, elongation, and elasticity, and is not suitable for use as a base waterproofing material.

Chemical Properties

Base fabric tape is composed of various high polymer materials, with stable chemical properties, excellent aging resistance, and superior chemical performance compared to geotextiles.

Adhesive Performance

The base joint tape itself has strong adhesive properties, allowing direct bonding to a clean base, whereas geotextile does not have adhesive capabilities and requires the application of emulsified asphalt to achieve some level of adhesion. Moreover, the sealed joints also have poor sealing effects.

High elasticity and excellent resistance to deformation

The base tape features “self-healing” capabilities and strong resistance to deformation, preventing breakage or tearing when the base cracks move. In contrast, geotextiles have minimal elasticity and deformation resistance, making them prone to fracturing at crack locations and losing their effectiveness upon base movement.

 

Crack Resistance Mechanism

"Crack-resistant tape" is made of reinforced fiber material with good bending resistance, high tensile strength, and long-lasting corrosion resistance as the base material, covered with high-performance viscoelastic material processed with special ratios on both sides. Its crack-resistant mechanism is as follows:

When cement concrete undergoes cracking and deformation, the tensile strength of the "crack prevention tape" base material exceeds its adhesive strength, which disperses the originally concentrated stress through the covering layer of the tape, preventing and reducing the likelihood of asphalt concrete cracking.

When adjacent cement concrete slabs are repeatedly sheared up and down within a certain range, due to the excellent flexural and extensibility of the reinforcing fibers used, it is less likely to break the "crack-proof tape," maintaining its original stress diffusion function.

Due to the excellent self-adhesive sealing properties of the "crack prevention tape," it blocks the侵蚀 of surface water into the expansion joints (cracks) of cement concrete slabs, ensuring stable foundation and reducing factors that cause cracking.

 

Main Causes of Road Cracks

When road surfaces are repeatedly impacted by the loads of moving vehicles, especially under overloading conditions, it causes adjacent slabs of cement concrete pavement to frequently shift up and down. This leads to the concentration of deformation stress in the asphalt concrete at the corresponding locations, resulting in cracking of the asphalt concrete paving layer.

When local surface water erodes the cement concrete expansion joints (including cracks), it softens the subgrade at that location, exacerbating the upward and downward displacement of the cement concrete slabs, prompting the asphalt concrete pavement layer to crack.

Changes in temperature cause thermal expansion and contraction of cement concrete slabs, leading to horizontal displacement of the slabs. Since asphalt concrete is directly laid on the cement concrete slabs, its change pattern and deformation are synchronized with the cement concrete slabs, resulting in cracking of the asphalt concrete pavement.

 

Selecting the width of the crack-resistant tape

Cracks less than 10mm wide on the concrete slab surface should be sealed with a crack tape wider than 30cm, while cracks wider than 10mm, both transverse and longitudinal, should be sealed with a 50mm wide crack tape.

Choose glass fiber格栅 with a width of 100cm and tensile strength of 2000N/100cm.

 

Self-Adhesive Crack Prevention Tape Application Guide

Basic Requirements for Cement Concrete Pavements

(1) Concrete slabs must be stable. Reinforcement should be applied to the subgrade if the deflection values and differences in elevation between adjacent edges exceed the design specifications.

(2) All gaps in concrete road surfaces (including expansion joints, construction joints, and panel cracking joints, etc.) should first be sealed with flexible materials, with the filling height level with the road surface.

(3) Fractured and loose concrete should be removed, and the damaged areas should be repaired and leveled. Asphalt concrete or rapid-set cement concrete can be used for the repair material.

(4) Concrete block surfaces must be smooth, clean, and dry (moisture content not exceeding 10%), and free from sanding.

II. Base Coat Cleaning Agent

Before applying the "crack-proof tape," first coat the cleaned substrate with the substrate-specific treatment (cleaning) agent. Apply using a roller or brush, with a dosage of 0.2-0.3kg per square meter. The purpose is to consolidate any remaining dust on the substrate, enhancing the adhesive effect of the "crack-proof tape." Once the treatment agent is surface dry (not sticky to the touch, usually 0.5-1 hour), lay down the "crack-proof tape."

Three: Apply "Crack Prevention Tape"

Align the centerline of the expansion joint (crack) and, according to the required width specified in the design, unfold the "anti-crack tape." Place it on the area to be protected from cracks, with the isolation paper facing down. Then, lift half of the "anti-crack tape" and, while peeling off the isolation paper from the bottom, lay it forward to ensure a flat placement on the original surface. Proceed similarly to apply the other half of the "anti-crack tape" in the same manner.

After laying the "anti-crack tape," flatten it using sandbags or a roller.

Five. When two "anti-crack strips" are overlapped, the width should be 8-10cm. Use a roller to press and compact the overlap to ensure a firm bond.

 

Construction Precautions

(1) The concrete pavement must be dry prior to construction. Do not proceed with work on a wet subgrade or during rain or snow.

(2) After construction, the "Crack Prevention Tape" must be compacted with sand bags or a rubber-tired roller to prevent water from entering the adhesive surface before laying asphalt concrete. If heavy rain is expected before laying asphalt concrete, sealant should be applied to both sides of the "Crack Prevention Tape."

(3) Construction is not recommended when temperatures fall below 5℃.

(4) When laying asphalt concrete, vehicles must not make a U-turn by driving over the "crack prevention tape" in place.

(5) When the gradient exceeds 5%, the width of the "crack prevention tape" should not be greater than 330mm. During the laying of the base asphalt concrete, minor slipping may occur, which should be repaired promptly without affecting the quality of the work.

(6) The total thickness of the asphalt concrete overlay should not be less than 6 cm.

(7) When the area to be covered with "anti-crack tape" has a height difference between adjacent sides greater than 1cm or contains numerous holes, the area should be leveled before applying the tape to prevent the "anti-crack tape" from being damaged by gravity when laid over dents. Leveling materials can include epoxy mortar or asphalt mixture.

Transverse joints less than 10mm and cracks on the cement concrete slab surface should be treated with a crack tape wider than 30cm.
