Principle of operation for the cyclone dust collector:
Dust-laden gas enters tangentially at the inlet, gaining rotational motion while the airflow splits into upper and lower streams, forming a double-vortex motion. A strong separation effect occurs at the bottom of the exhaust, where the dust particles are separated. Finer, lighter dust particles are carried upwards by the upper vortex airflow, forming a strongly rotating ash ring beneath the top cover, causing particle aggregation. These particles are then extracted from the upper opening of a specially designed bypass separation chamber and guided through the lower spiral channel of the bypass separation chamber, tangentially introduced into the lower section of the dust collector where they merge with the internal airflow, separating the dust which falls into the ash hopper. The heavier, coarser dust particles are carried by the lower vortex airflow and, following a similar process to the upper vortex, are separated and enter the ash hopper through the lower section of the dust collector.
Selection of Cyclone Dust Collectors:
The basis for selecting a cyclone dust collector includes: production capacity (gas flow rate), allowable pressure drop, dust properties, and required separation efficiency. When selecting a model, a balance should be struck between low resistance and other factors. Generally, equipment with a larger length-to-diameter ratio and smaller inlet and outlet cross-sections has higher efficiency but greater resistance; conversely, less resistance but lower efficiency.
The size of dust removal equipment can be determined based on the gas treatment capacity. By specifying an inlet gas velocity, the size of the cyclone dust collector's inlet can be calculated, and its diameter can be determined proportionally. If a performance table is available, the appropriate model can be directly selected based on the gas treatment capacity. However, it should be noted that within the same model, larger sizes generally have lower efficiency. Therefore, the separation performance should be estimated based on the equipment's diameter D to ensure it meets the requirements. If it does not meet the requirements, a smaller diameter device should be used, possibly in parallel operation with two or more units.
In addition, the resistance and dust removal efficiency of the cyclone dust collector should be calculated. To calculate the overall efficiency, the particle size efficiency curve of the dust removal equipment in question, along with the particle size distribution and density data of the processed particulate material, are required. When data is incomplete, estimates should be made based on similar test results or actual production conditions.
When the air volume entering the cyclone dust collector is significantly lower than the normal volume, due to the reduced centrifugal force, its separation efficiency also decreases significantly. Therefore, when arranging the gas pipeline for parallel operation of cyclone separators, attention should be paid to ensure that the gas volume delivered to each device is equal. Many small-diameter cyclone dust collectors are assembled into an integrated unit using parallel connections, housed in a single casing, and referred to as a cyclone dust collector assembly. Its separation efficiency is obviously better than that of a large single cyclone dust collector handling the same air volume. However, due to the difficulty in achieving complete uniform distribution of the gas flow and the risk of cross-contamination through the ash discharge ports, its efficiency cannot reach the level achievable by a single small device in use.
The cyclone separator typically has low separation efficiency for particles below 5m, and can be coupled with bag filters and wet dedusting systems.
