Complexing agents can form complexes with metal ions. In electroplating solutions, except for a few, such as acidic solutions for electroplating iron, nickel, chrome, and copper, which do not require or do not use complexing agents, most other electroplating solutions, such as alkaline solutions for electroplating silver, gold, copper, zinc, tin, and copper-tin alloys, do necessitate the use of complexing agents. Compounds like cyanides, hydroxides, citrates, phosphates, thiosulfates, and sulfites are widely used as complexing agents in electroplating production. In the dyeing and printing industry, complexing agents are also known as chelating agents, chelating dispersants, metal sequestrants, and water softeners. Complexing agents, especially those with multifunctional organic groups, are increasingly applied in the dyeing and printing industry, such as softening water quality, preventing sedimentation, removing scale from dyeing equipment, preventing fabric bleaching holes, and ensuring vibrant dyeing colors.
