Ball joint couplings are widely used in production. They are divided into rigid couplings and flexible couplings. Rigid couplings include rigid fixed couplings and rigid floating couplings. Rigid fixed couplings require precise alignment of the two connected shafts, which remains unchanged during operation.
Medium and low-power compressors typically use elastic ball and socket couplings, such as elastic ring pin couplings and nylon pin couplings; large, symmetrical, balanced medium and high-pressure compressors (such as hydrogen-nitrogen compressors in ammonia plants) have high power and low speed. They are usually directly driven by synchronous motors.法兰ball and socket couplings are used between the motor shaft and the compressor crankshaft. High-speed compressors also use gear couplings. When fans are driven by couplings, small and medium-sized centrifugal blowers often use elastic couplings, such as elastic ring pin couplings and nylon pin couplings. High-power gear couplings are used. Centrifugal compressors generally use gear ball and socket couplings and gear keyless couplings.
Pumps are one of the widely used chemical industry machinery. Small and medium-sized pumps typically use elastic ball and socket couplings. High-power axial flow pumps and turbine pumps often employ synchronous motors as the prime mover, connected and driven by flange couplings. Gear couplings are commonly used for high-speed, high-power pumps.
Mixers used in chemical production typically employ sleeve ball coupling couplings. In recent years, hydraulic couplings have been widely adopted for the transmission of equipment such as rotary dryers, crushers, and ball mills. Large boiler feed pumps use variable speed hydraulic couplings due to their excellent flow control capabilities, which can reduce electricity consumption. The high-pressure ammonia pump in the urea plant is a large plunger pump. To accommodate the required flow variations in the process, this pump is equipped with a hydraulic torque converter.
The conveying equipment is driven by belt transmission. Common ball and socket couplings include elastic pin couplings, tire couplings, and nylon pin couplings, etc. Some conveying machinery does not use belt transmission but instead employs torque-limiting couplings to prevent overloading. For belt conveyors and scraper conveyors with longer bodies, higher inertia, and greater impact upon start-up, it is advisable to use extended-type or valve-controlled hydraulic couplings.
