Dock cranes are generally used on wharfs in ports. Typically, they operate outdoors, so they must withstand the beating of rain and snow and the scorching sun. With the deterioration of the atmospheric environment, the acid content in rainwater has increased, posing a significant challenge for dock cranes that are always exposed to the elements. Rust prevention is a must, so how do we maintain and prevent rust? What should we be aware of? Let's learn together below.

(1) For damaged paint film on metal structures, clean the component surface thoroughly, apply rust-proof paint and decorative film to protect the metal surface from rusting after rain or snowfall.

(2) In the moving parts of the crane, such as the connecting pin axis between the hoisting rope and the crane, each guide wheel, the carriage wheel, etc., it is essential to carry out anti-rust work meticulously. After shutting down the crane, first clean these areas with a brush to remove any contaminants, moisture, and rust spots that could lead to corrosion. Then apply -10 or -20 diesel oil to these areas, as -10 or -20 diesel oil has better penetration than engine oil, allowing it to seep into loaded joints. This creates an oil film on the metal surface and, due to its low freezing point, it can withstand low temperatures.

(3) After cleaning with diesel and applying lubricant, coat with a layer of grease. Calcium or lithium-based greases are good choices due to their mechanical stability, adhesion, and water resistance, with a solidification point of -20°C. When applying grease, do not apply it too thickly.

Anti-rust treatment of the dock crane is a critical task; it cannot be taken lightly. Therefore, regular maintenance and anti-rust work for the dock crane must be conducted to be effective.
