A grab is a specialized tool for cranes to handle dry bulk cargo. It consists of two or more hinged jaw plates that close together to form a container space. During loading, the jaws close onto the material pile, capturing the cargo. During unloading, the jaws open while suspended over the pile, allowing the cargo to fall. The opening and closing of the jaws are typically controlled by the crane's lifting mechanism using steel cables. Grab operations eliminate heavy manual labor, achieve high loading and unloading efficiency, and ensure safety, making them the primary tools for handling dry bulk cargo at ports.
