They are primarily used in: seepage prevention in projects like earthen and rockfill dams, masonry dams, concrete dams, tailings dams, wastewater reservoir dams, canals, and liquid storage ponds; waterproof lining for subways, basements, and tunnels; seepage prevention in highway and railway foundations; and in conjunction with geotextiles like long-fiber geotextiles and bentonite waterproofing mats in the construction of sanitary landfills.
