Pickling is a method of cleaning metal surfaces. It is usually carried out in conjunction with pre-tinning. The workpiece is generally immersed in a water solution of sulfuric acid or the like to remove films such as oxides on the metal surface. It serves as a pre-treatment or intermediate treatment for processes such as electroplating, vitreous enameling, rolling, etc.
